Astrology and the New Mother

I think it's only fitting for my first blog post to be centered around this Divine connection between us and the stars, and how we can better understand ourselves, our care for others, and our parenting through this lens. This is where my passion lies, and what I have been guided to offer to my community.
First things first, we cannot address what new mothers need without first recognizing all of the things they are being forced to go without in this country. Throughout history, the pregnancy and postpartum period has been a sacred window of time in which a mother is truly transformed from the inside out. This is not the case in modern day America. Women have little-to-no support, are left to tend to the house and children as if nothing has happened, and receive abhorrent excuses for "medical care" that leave them traumatized and empty, rather than the traditions that once existed to nourish and fill them with love, proper care, and nutrients.
I'll address much more on these topics in further entries, but I don't want there to be any ideas here that with Astrology, all of these core needs will vanish and some magical wands waves away the injustice- this is not the case. My approach to pregnancy and postpartum care is holistically root and honors the journey that the mother is taking in all of the ways of old. We will work through traumas, fears, and real world problems. I will nourish her body with ancestral food and rituals. I will pick up the slack around the house, and work with her to devise a plan that makes sure she enjoys every possible moment of her baby bubble. I will show her the true meaning of community and devotion that is missing from our world, and through this connection we will build social resiliency that will last for generations.
Now, how does Astrology fit into this puzzle? What makes my care stand out from others? That's what I want to speak on today. I absolutely believe that anyone showing up during your pregnancy and postpartum to help care for you is a win. ALL doulas are highly needed and under-utilized. But I was called to honor something deeper in the way that I care for families. From the moment I reviewed my own birth chart in depth for the first time, my life was dramatically altered. It was a foreign language but it felt as if it had been on my tongue for centuries. I knew that it was not only going to be a tool to continuously bring me into the next best version of myself, but that I would also change the lives of others with this tool.
Becoming a Doula had that same familiar past-life feeling for me. Caring for women is something I have been innately doing my whole life. My mother was very ill when I was a child and caring for her was something that was just expected, along with caring for my little sister. As I grew, I had friends who had babies very young, and offering myself to them just came naturally. I could easily soothe a baby, encouraging rest and taking on household chores for mom was just instinct, and I would rather have been in the depths of those first days with them than out enjoying my youth.
The catch is that I wasn't even aware that being a postpartum Doula was a career choice until I was pregnant for the third time! I had been certified already to become a Birth doula, but this was news to me. My midwife suggested that we look for one while we were trying to figure out how we were going to manage our very hectic lifestyle when Finley was due to arrive. Cue Melissa (Rise in Bloom)- my absolutely wonderful doula. Her care transformed my life and it was very clear to me that this is where my Energy was going to be best put to use.
I have had the pull to bring Astrology into my life professionally in the past, and I have a following of clients who reach out to me for readings periodically already, but I just couldn't wrap my head around the constant social media presence needed to grow the business. So it has sat on the back burner for years. Now I see exactly why, because it's meant to be a tool in my belt for postpartum care.
There are so many things we can learn about a person from their birth chart. Every planet, house, aspect, and sign and the ways that they meet up in your own personal sky snap-shot are the tools we use to show you your unique emotional, mental, physical, and ethereal blueprint in this lifetime. Then you combine the charts of two people to see how they align, and the information quadruples. Then you add in the current and forecasted transits of the Cosmos to see how a person is able to grow, shift, and evolve in real time, and the whole picture is revealed.
All of these pieces of information can be used to curate a personalized care-package for a new mother, her partner, and her babies. From the day of the week to execute a certain ritual, to exploring the best practices and herbs or nourishment needed to bring her back to center, to divulging into the mystical inner-worlds of the mind and Soul to work through birth and childhood traumas, showing us ways forward that offer support and a sense of self-love. Learning the intricacies of your baby's chart in their first few weeks of life can offer a beautiful perspective on who they will become, how they are here to help you grow, and how you can best support them during their most difficult moments. No one is as devoted to showing up with 110% as a mother, and what a gift it is to have a cheat code of sorts!
This is a period of radical transformation and even for mothers who are already attuned to Astrology and have already begun the world of unraveling what they are here to learn in this lifetime, they are offered entrance through another Portal with the birth of this baby. Everything will change again and again, each time they choose to give birth. This is what I am here to honor and show families how to cherish.
I aim to introduce many new, yet ancient traditions into the lives of families today, in hopes that we can get back to a sense of connection with our fellow humans, the Earth, the Cosmos, and ourselves. Astrology is just one of the ways in which I will facilitate this bond, but it is a mighty one!
